Privacy notice
This notice covers the SSDHero app for Mac and this website, ssdhero.app. SSDHero is made by an independent developer; you can reach them at privacy@ssdhero.app.
LAST UPDATED OCTOBER 9, 2026
The app, on your Mac
SSDHero reads the health data your drives keep (wear, spare capacity, temperature, errors, power-on time and data written), their activity counters, free space, and your Mac’s swap and memory pressure. It uses them to show each drive’s health, history and forecast, and to alert you.
It keeps a history of readings, your settings, each drive’s last benchmark result and the state its widgets show, in its own storage on your Mac. Readings are kept for 30, 90 or 400 days, as you choose in Settings → Data, where you can also export them or delete them all.
The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It doesn’t have permission to make network connections, so it can’t send anything anywhere; its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. If crash reporting is ever added, it will be off until you turn it on, and this notice will say so first.
On macOS 27, macOS reads many USB drives’ health itself. For the others, SSDHero asks you once to hand the drive to it from macOS’s menu bar; it reads only the drive’s health data and gives the drive back to macOS after a few seconds. A benchmark, which you start yourself, writes a temporary test file to the volume you pick and deletes it.
Purchases
The free trial and the purchase go through Apple’s App Store. SSDHero never sees your name, your Apple Account or your payment details; the app only asks the App Store whether the trial or the purchase is active.
Apple sends the developer a notice of each purchase event: a purchase, the start of a free trial, a refund or a refund request. Each notice holds Apple’s transaction numbers, the product, the price and currency, the store’s country and the dates. It doesn’t hold who you are. The notices are kept, encrypted, in a private Amazon Web Services storage bucket in Singapore, and a summary of each is emailed to privacy@ssdhero.app, so the developer can keep accurate records of sales and refunds. They are kept for seven years, the usual period for sales records, and then deleted automatically. The emails are kept for the same period.
What you share
SSDHero can make a Health report (a PDF), a Disk Health snapshot (an image or a PDF) and a benchmark result (an image). It makes one only when you choose Share, Save or Copy, and it never uploads it: where it goes is up to you and the app you send it with.
Depending on what you share, it can include the drive’s name, model, device name (such as /dev/disk4), capacity, firmware version, the names of its volumes, its health figures and warnings, its highest recent temperature, how long SSDHero has watched it, its self-test log, its last benchmark, the date and the SSDHero version. Only the last few characters of the drive’s serial number are shown, unless you choose to include all of it. No app names, no file names, and nothing about your Mac beyond the drive.
Files you share are made in a temporary folder in SSDHero’s own storage, and older ones are removed.
This website and email
This website has no cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, remote fonts or third-party scripts, and no accounts or forms. If you switch between the light and dark theme, your browser remembers the choice on your device.
The site is served by Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront), and its domain is run through Cloudflare. Like any web host, they handle the technical details of each request, such as your IP address, in order to deliver the page; the developer doesn’t keep logs of visits.
Email to privacy@ssdhero.app is forwarded by Cloudflare to the developer’s inbox. It is used only to answer you, and kept for as long as that conversation needs.
Your choices
Your drive history is on your Mac: you can export it or delete it in SSDHero’s Settings → Data, and deleting SSDHero removes it.
For purchases and refunds, use Apple’s App Store, which handles them. To ask about, or ask for the deletion of, the purchase notices described above, or for any other privacy question, email privacy@ssdhero.app. Nothing in this notice limits rights you have under the law where you live.
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it.
