Getting help
A few details help us answer quickly:
- Your Mac model and macOS version.
- The SSDHero version.
- The drive, and how it’s connected: internal, Thunderbolt, USB or an SD card. For an external drive, the enclosure’s make and model if you know it.
- What you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps.
If it’s useful, attach a health report saved as a PDF from the app, or readings exported as CSV. That’s your choice: SSDHero never sends anything on its own.
Quick answers
Restoring a purchase
“Restore purchase” is on the purchase pane, and “Restore” is in Settings → License. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store’s terms.
The free trial
Every feature is free for 14 days from when you click “Start free trial” on the purchase pane, and the sidebar shows the days left. The days count from when the trial started, so reinstalling SSDHero doesn’t restart it.
To keep everything, buy once for $9.99: “Buy” is on the purchase pane, in Settings → License, and in the sidebar during the trial. No subscription. If you don’t buy, each drive’s status stays in the menu bar and sidebar, and the alert when a drive gets worse keeps working.
Checking a USB drive on macOS 27
Plug the drive in and click “Check health” on the card at the top right. The first time, macOS asks you to hand the drive to SSDHero: choose “Use with SSDHero” for the drive in macOS’s Virtual Machine Accessories menu bar item. A small window shows you how, and macOS remembers your choice. If you cancel, nothing is unmounted.
A check unmounts the drive for a few seconds, never by force, reads its health data, writes nothing, and gives the drive back to macOS. After that, the drive is checked each time you plug it in; you can turn that off in Settings. Some USB drives don’t need the hand-over at all, because macOS 27 reads their health itself while they stay mounted.
USB NVMe enclosures, and USB drives on macOS 14 to 26, show their link, speed and error counters.
A check didn’t finish
SSDHero says why and what to do next, and it never forces an unmount. If the reason isn’t clear, email us the message you see.
Is the forecast a guarantee?
No. It’s an estimate of rated endurance based on wear and usage history, not a predicted failure date. Keep regular backups whatever the reading says. There are more answers in the FAQ.
Feedback and ideas
An idea, a rough edge, or a drive that shows less than you expected: we’d like to hear about it. What SSDHero can read depends on the Mac, the macOS version, the drive and its enclosure, so their make and model help most.
